Inspired to write about social work?

By Nicola McGeown, Principal Social Worker

When I established this blog back in 2015 it was all very new to me and I was quite daunted at the prospect of writing posts and worried about how engaged people would be with it. Well it’s now been running for nearly two years and not only is it well read but posts are retweeted by social work colleagues all over the UK.

The blog would not be possible to sustain without amazing practitioners in East Sussex who also contribute on a regular basis – so thank you to all of you. Our posts are wide ranging from practice to resilience and we’re planning posts from service users too.

I am keen to hear the voices of more of our social workers on the blog and am therefore running a social work writing competition open to all practitioners in East Sussex. There are no hard and fast rules for blog posts; if you’d like inspiration take a look at the blog posts to date. Choose something you feel passionately about, it could be how you take care of yourself, a day in the life, challenges you have overcome, or a positive story of how your practice helped a service user/s – don’t feel constrained!

The posts should be submitted to Lucy Hogg by Monday 24th April. The winner will receive Developing Resilience for Social Work Practice by Grant and Kinman for their team.

The winning post will be published here mid May.
